Transform Your Garage Floor with PaintRight & Haymes Ultimate Epoxy
A garage floor takes a beating — from hot tyres and oil spills to daily foot traffic. With the right system and advice from PaintRight, using Haymes Ultimate Epoxy, you can transform bare concrete into a durable, easy-to-clean surface that looks sharp and performs even better.
What you’ll need
All available from your local PaintRight or Haymes Paint store:
- Broom
- Bucket
- Brush and paint pot
- Epoxy sleeve roller, tray and extension handle
- Masking tape
- Power mixer
- Haymes Ultimate 2 Pack Epoxy
- Decorative flakes
- Epoxy clear coat
Step 1: Prepare the surface
Thoroughly sweep the garage floor, ensuring it’s free from dust, dirt and loose debris. Good preparation is the key to long-lasting adhesion and a professional finish.
Before mixing, calculate how much product you’ll need. Once mixed, epoxy has a working time of around one hour, so planning ahead is essential.
Step 2: Mix the epoxy
Haymes Ultimate Epoxy is mixed at a 1:1 ratio. Power mix each component separately first, then combine and mix thoroughly. This ensures correct curing and consistent performance.
Step 3: Apply the base coat
Cut in around the edges first using a brush. Apply the base coat with an epoxy sleeve roller, working in manageable bands.
As each band is completed, immediately broadcast the decorative flakes into the wet epoxy. Leave approximately 150ml at the leading edge so the roller can overlap smoothly into the next section. Lightly roll over the flakes with a dry foam roller to bed them in.
Repeat until the entire floor is coated.
Step 4: Clear coats
Once dry, sweep or vacuum away loose flakes. Mix the epoxy clear the same way as the base coat — remembering to mix components individually first. The clear may appear milky when applied, but it dries transparent.
Apply the first clear coat at 5 square metres per litre, then repeat for the second coat once dry.
Tip: If your garage receives direct sunlight, PaintRight recommends finishing with a Haymes Ultimate 2 Pack Polyurethane Clear after the first epoxy clear coat to provide UV protection.
Final cure
Allow 7 days for the floor to fully cure and reach maximum durability.
